I have been here two months and it just hit me to start a blog ( a little blonde ;) )
So I will start by catching you up on the last two months
August 23rd and 24th- I left my home in Oregon and flew all night and all the way across the country. I arrived in South Carolina around 9 in the morning on Friday. I waited to be picked up by a BJU shuttle bus ( which was late, and had me sorta worried). Well the bus got there, and we waited for other flights to arrive. I met Becca from Massachusetts and Sharon from South Korea. When we arrived at BJU we dropped off our stuff and headed to sign in. We all stuck together, as we collected papers, got our photo i.d. and helped each other move into our dorms. Sadly we were not placed in the same dorm. I was placed in Mary Gaston and the others in Margret Mack and Georgia Creel (however, we are all on the 3rd floor) I came to my room but no one was here :( I unpacked my stuff, met my R.A. Hannah and made dinner plans. My first roommate arrived around 3pm Joanna (Joey) from Maryland. She drove down with her parents and I met them too. Finally our other roommate Jolene arrived around 9pm with her parents and we all stayed up until midnight talking
Classes begin
Luckily, we had a few days to get settled before classes started. I am taking 15 credits this semester (Yikes!) I know I will manage. Let's see, the classes I am taking are: History of Civ, Old Testament Messages, National Government, Intro to Education, Intro to Art, English 101, Freshman Seminar and two tutorial classes.
Here at BJU we have what are called Society. Its a chance to meet others. There an outreach program., we also have Wednesday night prayer meetings, Sunday school, dating outings with our brother society ( the Stallions) or Stag outings ( which I missed ours :( )
A job
( after my first night at Papa Johns)
( after my first day at Barge)
Well, I had trouble in the beginning. Finally, in October they had a job fair for the dining services. I applied for the snack shop and was hired to work at papa Johns. However there was a mistake and I was placed at Brody's grill, just two counters down from Papa John's. I was bummed, I was already making friends at Papa John's ,but I still got to see them and talk to them. Unfortunately, the snack shop wasn't getting enough business and had to let me go :( I knew God's hand was in everything, so I prayed and trusted in Him. A week and a few days later, I got a new job! I am working custodial in my dorm. A few days after starting my job at custodial I got an e-mail from a lady in the dietary department at Barge ( the campus hospital) and offered me a job serving meals to patients!! I was so excited.. I began work that Saturday! It was a crazy week! I was feel so blessed.Crazy life here at BJU
so this year is the first year that we have intercollegiate sports; everyone is super excited!! I have been to a few games, the first game was super exciting A LOT of people came to the game!
Here we have something called Vespers, it can range from a drama, a musical performance, or a singspiration type performance. There have been three but I had to miss one due to Washington Center days ( more on that in a few)
( Linea, me, Becca and Joey on the bridge of nations after our first vespers)
Our first Vespers was a drama. the second was a musical performance ( I missed this one) and the third one was a drama (this one was sorta disturbing) Vespers happens a couple times each semester. We have one more before Christmas break
We also have Artist Series: this is a music concert or play. Our first Artist Series was the Georgia Guitar Quartet. It wasn't what I was expecting; I was expecting more folk type songs, all but one song was a classical music piece that the group arranged for guitars. We have another Artist Series next week. Its Richard the III.
Washington Center Days!!
This event is sort of like Special Olympics. Washington Center is a school here in Greenville that helps children with special needs. All Education majors ( thats me) Communication disorder majors and Physical Therapy majors all had to attend ( missing the vespers) I was soo blessed on working at Washington Center Days. Naoemi and I both worked with a little boy named Caleb. He was non verbal, he has cerebal Palsy and many more. Despite not being able to talk he had the biggest smile. We had such a wonderful time.
Hurricane Sandy: it missed us thankfully. However, it did get super cold here the week it was passing through. My heart goes out to all those effected
