I recently was scrolling through the endless posts on my Facebook timeline; when I came across a friend of a friend's post. An article written by a young newly married woman who is a journalist for the huffington post. I waited as the article slowly loaded on my 3G phone. I began reading the article with an open mind, this did not last long before all good reasoning wanting to come shouting out. In the article, the author writes her reasoning behind not changing her last name 1) her last name is cool( seriously?!) main reason #2 it is her identity. She makes several weak arguments in addition to these two( one of which was she made the decision to not change her last name at age 10) . She tries to play off like she isn't sexist but her whole article has the tone of feminism. Also, she ( at age 29) hasn't realized your name is not completely who you are and if friends and family can only answer "well she has a cool last name" then you need to reconsider some things. I am going to also note: I have a pretty awesome last name (Blondo) I get comments on it all the time; however despite it being awesome it would be my HONOR to take my husband'a last name. and when you get married your identity changes. It's no longer just about you!
